Your Questions About Quinoa Calories

Helen asks…

Pregnancy and eating right/cravings?

I found out I’m 7 weeks due with my first baby, and am wondering about eating habits at this point.

I know I need about 300 more calories a day, but my old diet just won’t cut it. I’m a vegetarian (please keep the “you need meat protein” bit to a minimum. No one in this country who wasn’t starving ever died of a protein deficiency.) I normally start my day out with 3 pieces of fruit or fresh juiced fruit and eggs with soysage. then for lunch a whole grain sandwich or soup and salad, dinner is a meal with fresh veggies, whole grain (quinoa, rice, beans), and a veggie burger or tofu.

I’m up to about 56 ounces of water a day, so i’m not dehydrated. I know I need about 300 extra calories a day and I shouldn’t get them from empty calorie snacks like chips or pop. I guess I just feel like when I want a snack, it should be healthy but sometimes all I can think about is a bag of cheetos or cookies.

Cravings don’t start this early do they? Or am I letting myself get too hungry between meals? I guess I feel like I eat plenty already and shouldn’t be as hungry as I am.
I do take my vitamins :)

Anthony answers:

Cravings can happen at any point in the pregnancy. Just make sure you are getting enough nurtrients and taking the vitamins your OB requests. Mine gave me a big list of different ones including prenatal ones. And usually when you have m/s you need to be eating more througout the day and some empty cals are ok to have you are going to need anything you can get. Good luck and congrats

Jenny asks…

cold hands and feet please help?

i have been suffering from a circulation problem in my hands and feet. I am very active and i know 100% sure this is because of my diet. When i drink alcohol, my hands and feet go really cold very fast. in my own thinking its just because my past on alcohol/pizza/sugar abuse (its all i used to eat) for years. maybe my pancrease is blown out or something. anyway i have been wheat/starch free for the last 3 days. this consists of a vegan diet, and cutting out all starches. Feeling like crap the last 3 days, but i read its normal because my body is not used to this nutrition. i ate some black rice and brussel sprouts this morning and around lunch timetoday my hands and feet were soo cold it was terrible. I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at lunch because i had nothing left in the fridge/kitchen. After eating the 100% wheat bread, and organic peanut butter, with agave instead of sugary jam, my hands and feet went instantly warm as if i felt way better. I dont understand this because wheat is manmade and contains unnatural starch , which isnt natural. nor is it healthy. And the peanut butter is a hybrid also , and its not natural. Starch is a manmade ingredient, and not natural.

Could it be that the 100% whole wheat bread made my hands and feet instantly warm after eating it? maybe my body is soo used to wheat/starch that its reacting a weird way without it, and maybe thats why i have been feeling soo cold after switching to vegan/starch free diet. Or maybe its just cause my body was shutting down from not getting enough calories and as soon as i eat the pb and J, my body got a rush of calories. I dont know

Any input would be apreciated. I also havent been getting nearly as much calories as i used to get on processed crappy food..

Why would my circulation drasticlly and instantly improve after eating a pb and j? but yet if i eat Something healthy like Kale with quinoa or something i dont warm up

Anthony answers:

YOu say it was wheat bread, then it was 100% whole wheat-. You do know that wheat bread is sold as healthy bread, but all wheat bread is wheat flour – same as white flour. Same thing. WHolewheat alone in the bread is different.

YOu got a sugar rush from the glucose and sugar. Not refined sugar, but normal unrefined drip-effect sugar.
YOu’re not supposed to cut out starches. There’s nothing wrong with bananas, dates, raw sugars.
You didn’t eat for 3 days, then you did ( bread, PB and J ) and now you got a nice healthy amount of nutrition.
That’s all.

What do you mean, bread is manmade? Everything except whle fruits and veg is man made. If it was 100% wholewheat, then all you got was a nice healthy dose of good carb and energy. Nothing wrong with it. No wonder your hands and feet remain cold if you don’t eat anything but salad, if thats your starch free diet.
YOu’re obviously not eating as much as you used to , and now you’re not eating junk food either. But it’s stupid to eat only salad, you’ll feel cold, numb and have frozen extremities.

I bet when you eat kale and quinoa, you’re counting calories.

Eat a big bowl of brown rice and don’t count the calories- you’ll feel the same warmth. Or oatmeal , almonds and soymilk with briwn sugar.

Richard asks…

how to get rid of this belly fat?

Okay so, I am 5’7. I used to be 156 lbs(very close to being overweight), and was so disgusted with my big tummy that I decided to lose weight. Now, I am 121 pounds, but I still have a huge tummy, and I don’t know whether to keep losing weight or what….If I lose 4 more pounds, I will go into the “underweight” category. Should I keep trying to lose weight to get this stomach off? Also, I don’t eat ANY bad foods anymore. I eat 1200 calories a day, which consists of ONLY fruits, vegetables, nuts , beans , and healthy grains like brown rice, quinoa, ezekiel bread. Will the stomach fat come off ever, if I keep losing weight?

Anthony answers:

My mom always tells me that cardio is the only way to lose belly fat.
Try doing some jumping jacks, go for long jogs, and dance whenever you get the time. Haha!
Also, do some crunches and stuff to tighten your abs (:

Sharon asks…

Help putting together a meal plan?

I’m needing to gain some weight and struggling to top 2000 calories a day… but it’s really hard, I always feel so effin full and bloated. I have a bunch of good/organic/healthy foods at home and was wondering if you guys could help me put together a plan that could get me to 2000? (then I’ll eventually bump it up more and more, little by little until I gain the weight)

Anyway, the foods we have are:
granola (w/ almonds and dried fruit)
fiber twigs cereal (this stuff is my fav!)
cereal similar to Cheerios (except it’s gluten free)
puffed kamut and puffed wheat cereal
plain greek yogurt
eggs
peanut butter (I love this stuff and would seriously eat it all day, but I feel so bad if I have too much)
sprouted grain and gluten free breads
cereal bars (kashi, enviro kids organic)
Larabars
almond milk
laughing cow spreadable cheese
vegan american “cheese”
oven roasted turkey breast
vegan “bologna”
vegan “hot dogs”
turkey hot dogs
black beans
quinoa
frozen veggies (green beans, cauliflower, carrots)
raw veggies (carrots, romaine, tomato, spinach, bell peppers)
fruits (frozen blueberries, mangos, strawberries, fresh apples, bananas)

I usually eat breakfast around 7:45 AM, then eat a tiny snack at my locker around 9-10 during passing periods, lunch is at 12, snack on the bus around 4, dinner around 5:30, then another snack or mini meal if I’m still hungry later.
Also, the only beverages I drink are water and unsweetened tea.

Anthony answers:

It can be difficult to gain weight while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Based on the health-conscious foods you’ve listed above, I don’t think telling you to eat Doritos is a good idea. ;)

It sounds to me like you need to add some good, healthy fats! You should definitely try to eat more avocados, cold-pressed olive oil, coconut oil, nut butters, etc.

I am a raw vegan, and I get a lot of my caloric intake from eating nuts. I get bored just eating handfulls of nuts, so I make a lot of nut pates and sauces from nuts, especially from cashews.

I’ll put a couple of links to good recipes below.

In terms of figuring out your daily meal plan, you just need to start incorporating more healthy fats into your daily routine.

Example, green smoothie for breakfast that contains an avocado. Snack of nuts and fruit or pb or something else. Lunch, perhaps a large salad with more healthy fats, like EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and some crackers with a fatty spread, like your spreadable cheese. More snacks, then a heavy dinner of perhaps nut pate or veggie hot dogs or what have you.

And you could certainly start drinking juice (fresh squeezed is the healthiest but not sure if that’s realistic for you) and other beverages that’ll give you more calories than tea/water.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Steven asks…

How come in America, a 325 pound waddling tub of lard is higher on the totem pole than a fit gay man?

I am five foot four, 112 pounds. I run, work out, go to the gym, go to yoga, and play in a Men’s Soccer league. I get 80% of my calories from organic rice, beans, lentils, and quinoa. If I look in the mirror and lift up my shirt, and I can’t see definition in my abs, I go down to two meals a day. I have all my unsightly hair removed. I have manicures and pedicures. People comment that even my feet look beautiful. I look good in the shower at the gym, and I look good in a speedo. I take great care of my appearance. I will go to a dozen stores to find a pair of jeans that fit me perfectly and make me look good. I will often go to half a dozen stores until I find a pair of shoes that look good on me. I take care of my hair, and get haircuts frequently. I make sure the dentist keeps my teeth bone white. I look good and I am beautiful. I have a Moto Guzzi Norge Motorcycle, and I have a very expensive set of leather jacket, pants, and boots, with a gorgeous Shoei Helmet. When I go out clubbing, everyone stops and stares when I pull up on my bike, and take off my helmet, and shake my hair. I work very, very hard to be attractive.

At the school where I teach, I just lost the election for Union Chapter Chair for our teachers union, United Teachers Los Angeles. I lost to a big fat, ugly, smelly waddling tub of lard with a disgusting growth of beard, very bad skin, warts, ugly glasses with green corrosion eyepieces, sneakers that look like they belong to a homeless person. He smokes and reeks of stench. He can barely walk from one end of the campus to the other. He doesn’t even bother to pick up his kids at the line up circle; he is too fat, he walks to the end of the building and waves the kids to him. I think the only reason he goes to the monthly Union meeting is the free fried chicken and sandwiches and junk food that he gorges on during the meeting. I once went with him; it was disgusting; he is hundreds of pounds overweight, and he loaded up his plate with four or five half sandwiches and three or four pieces of fried chicken, and huge cookies and washed it down with two or three corn syrup sodas. I could live for a week (if I ate vomitous food like that) on what he ate. When he comes near you, and sits down, you feel nausea. I think something is rotting under his stomach flap or his buttcheeks. And I made the mistake of riding in his car to a Union Board of Representatives Meeting. My god, we had to clear out all the fast food wrappers so I could sit in the passenger seat. I felt like burning my clothes after I got out of the car. I must have sat in a half inch of crumbs and food wrapper deterius. This man air breathes at high pitch when he sits down next to you. He is truly one of the most disgusting, pathetic, nauseating, vomitous, foul, smelly, human beings I have ever had the misery to know. And this walking tub of feces beat me for Union Leader at the school simply because I am gay, and he is straight, and the most disgusting straight person is more loved than a beautiful gay person.
